Galvanized metal decor and serving pieces are great gifts, especially if you personalize them.
Paint pens and Washi Tape are all you need to make a plain tray into a unique gift. Here are some simple ways to personalize galvanized pieces and make great gifts for teachers and Mother’s Day.
So here’s the story…
When I was a kid, homemade lemonade was strictly a summertime treat. We only fixed real lemonade when fresh lemons arrived in the grocery store in the summer.
Mom would let me stand on a chair and roll the lemons against the countertop with my palms to soften them. She would slice them and squeeze the halves into a metal strainer thingy. I’m sure there’s a name for those, but you know what I’m talking about. We always had to dig way back in a deep drawer because it only got pulled out during the summer months. But how exciting it was to find it and make fresh lemonade again!
Even though we get lemons all year round now, I rarely make it fresh unless it’s summer time. It’s probably the same reason I only bake pumpkin bread in the fall. I don’t mix my seasons! I have seasonal OCD.
But anyway, ’tis the season for lemonade, so when I came across this galvanized metal decor at HomeGoods, I smiled to myself. My mom would have loved this lemonade tray, and I thought it would make a special gift for my daughter on Mother’s Day as well.
I snapped it up, as well as a galvanized metal utensil holder with pretty wooden handles. I thought I would personalize them with her initials, or perhaps some lemon botanical art, but in the end I decided on a Psalm to place around the sides of the tray.
But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again.
I wrapped the tray with yellow chevron Washi Tape and used an oil-based Sharpie Marker to write the text. I just free-handed the letters because I wanted it in my own writing, and I like that it looks imperfect.
The tray already had a recipe for lemonade printed in white, but it needed a little something, so I traced around the letters with the same black Sharpie pen to give them some definition.
I’m planning on making a few more trays with my mom’s recipes featured in the center. Does your family have traditional recipes that need passing down? This could be the perfect way to display a family recipe.
Galvanized metal decor is gorgeous alone, but there are so many easy ways to create unique gifts with these metal trays, bins, and buckets. Just add song lyrics, old photos, sheet music, or stencil quotes and initials. Craft stores carry many summer-themed peel and stick labels.
Peel and stick labels make it easy to personalize trays, buckets, and jars. Amazon has a lot to choose from, and most craft stores carry them in the scrapbook sections.
Bo Bunny stencils have a cute beach themed set that is repositionable and sticks to metal. Find it here. You can use these stencils with sprays, inks, and chalks, and paint.
Have fun using galvanized metal decor to tell the story of your home!
